Lucknow witnessed an destructive earthquake and the areas like Indira Nagar recorded an earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale. Though Lucknow has not experienced any disastrous earthquake for a long time, the possibility of one cannot be ruled out.

An earthquake with magnitude 7.5 occurred near Pokhara, Nepal at 06:11:25.80 UTC on Apr 25, 2015. (This event has been reviewed by a seismologist.)

In entire India the people felt vibrations on 25th April 2015 at 11:50 A.M including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Himanchal Pradesh, Punjab, North India and other cities. In a Disaster Risk Management Programme chalked out by the Ministry of Home Affairs in association with United Nations Development Programme, 38 Indian cities have been identified in Zone III and above.
